Dome community camps hit the target

More than 500 children from across Doncaster benefited from increased activity this summer as The Dome's community programme was hailed a success.

Children and young people aged between eight and 16 were invited to take part in 12 summer camps at the Bawtry Road venue as they made the most of their break from school.

Activities such as football, swimming, ice-skating and rounders as well as a range of creative and innovative schemes like the mini-zoo lab and treasure hunts were available to provide a fun way of keeping fit, making new friends and being thoroughly entertained.

Jon Whiteley, The Dome's Head of Leisure said: "We are delighted with the response from the young people to the summer camps. The emphasis was on having fun, fun and more fun and the feedback we have got from the people who came along and participated has been very positive.

"The programmes were developed and run in consultation with the young people and key community contacts to keep the activities varied and enjoyable. Activities such as the mini-zoo lab capture the imagination and the sporty camps are great for social interaction and keeping fit.

"Only one in five of all the young people who attended the summer camps said that they would have been playing out or taking part in some form of physical activity had they not been at The Dome. I find that quite alarming but it also acts to place emphasis on the value of the camps and the hard work of all Dome staff in getting Doncaster's youth active.

"We offer a wide range of activities for young people and children all year round so hopefully the success of the summer camps can run on and on and encourage more people to get involved."For more information about activities and classes at The Dome call 01302 370777 or visit www.the-dome.co.uk.
