Date Posted: 29th October 2007
The Doncaster Dome has appointed a local fitness specialist to deliver community projects in the borough with the aim of getting children and adults more active.
Stewart Cullen, from Cantley, becomes The Dome's Community Sports and Recreations Officer with the primary focus of delivering outreach multi-skills lessons to local primary schools in line with the government's Physical Education School Sports Club Links (PESSCL) strategy.
He will carry out this role in conjunction with the Get Active school sports initiative and the Doncaster Primary Care Trust.
Stewart, 28, will also visit businesses to give fitness, leisure and health seminars and will help local community groups access a range of leisure and sporting opportunities.
He said: "I'm excited to be responsible for delivering key fitness and participation objectives on behalf of The Dome. Fitness is my passion and getting those messages across to children and adults is a challenge I relish."
Stewart has a diverse range of sports and fitness qualifications and has been a fitness instructor at The Dome's Fitness Village for four years. He will take his experience to people within The Dome's local catchment areas.
Jon Whiteley, The Dome's Head of Leisure, said: "Stewart's experience and enthusiasm is infectious and he'll be an extremely valuable addition to the team.
"This appointment comes on the back of the government's announcement that they aim to increase the take up of sporting opportunities by 5 to 16 year olds so that 85% of children by 2008 experience a minimum of two hours high quality PE and school sport within and beyond the curriculum each week, in line with PESSCL guidelines."
