The Doncaster Dome has proved it is simply the best as it was named Doncaster's most Outstanding Business at the town's Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2007.

The Bawtry Road venue also walked away with the Environmental Award for their work in an area, which they pride themselves on continually improving.

Dome Chief Executive Gavin Baldwin, who collected the awards said: "We are extremely proud to have own both of these awards as the ceremony once again ably showcased all that the town's business community has to offer and the achievements it can rightly be proud of.

"To be named Doncaster's Outstanding Business of the Year is quite an achievement and is great recognition of the team that we have in place at the Dome and their dedication to providing Doncaster with a venue that has high standards and where everyone feels passionately about the service they provide.

"Environmentally we believe that each and every business can do their bit and it is our long term goal to cut annual wastage from 100 tonnes to 20 tonnes, which is ambitious but achievable if visitors to the Dome "buy into" the scheme in the same way as the staff have done.

"We have had an interesting year as a business and have seen our events offering both sporting and entertainment go from strength to strength. Investments have been made to improve many areas including new seating and a refurbished squash courts.

"As a team we have worked hard to meet our customers expectations and will continue to work in partnership with others in the borough to ensure that the Dome remains a high achieving venue."

The Chamber appoints external judges to draw up shortlists for each category and they were all highly complimentary about the quality of the applications.
