A new project in Doncaster is looking at the physical and mental health of the young people, over fifties and employees across the borough.

Thanks to monies from the Innovation Fund, run by Doncaster Primary Care Trust the Dome bid successfully to run a number of projects that would bring value to the lives of members of the local community.

Jon Whiteley, Head of Leisure at the Dome said: "We were delighted that our bid for money from the Innovation Fund was successful. We have set up four projects targeting very different sections of our local community and are pleased to see that these are already having a positive impact on people’s wellbeing."

The four projects the Dome is running thanks to this money are After Schools Activity Clubs, Primetimer Days, Swimstars and Corporate Wellness.

"The schemes are running well with at least 100 attendances and each Primetimer Day which is targeted at the over 50s.

"More than 60 children are currently attending our After Schools Club and all the places on our swimstars sessions are booked up," added Jon

The Dome prides itself on the working closely with the community to meet the needs of local residents and create an environment where people can focus on their health and fitness.

"The Corporate Wellness Scheme involves members of the Dome team going out into work places and looking at ways people can get involved in fitness activities and team building sessions. These have worked extremely well and are being well received by the local business community.

"Projects like these are hugely important to the health and fitness attitudes of people across the borough and by getting people interested in such activities at an early age we can help them develop themselves in a positive way," concluded Jon.
